How ISR Works

Testimonials

We are so lucky to have found Genna and have her teach our children year after year. Her skill, demeanor, and passion for what she does show in the results. She not only teaches our kids to save their lives should they fall into water, she also educates us as parents on how to continue to preserve these skills. Her skill set helps kids of all ages over come obstacles involving water. She genuinely cares for the well being of our kids. You can’t ask for anything more.

Living in Arizona, it’s so important to teach your kids to swim at an early age—everyone has a pool here, and it’s “pool season” for more months than it’s not. We started our daughter, Piper, at a well-reputed indoor swim school at 18 months old. It was a fun experience for both of us, lots of “mommy and me” bonding time. At this school the kids swim with their parents until the age of three, then they’re turned over to a more personalized class (3 kids to 1 instructor). After a year and a half of faithfully attending weekly 30 minutes classes, we were invited to go swimming at a friend’s pool. My daughter was playing on the step in the shallow end with her dad while I chatted with my friend and her husband. My daughter threw the ball just past my husband, and when he turned to grab it she followed him. In a split second of silence she was underwater—fortunately there were several adults present and she was quickly surfaced by my friend’s husband. The whole thing happened so quickly that my 3 year old didn’t even have time to get scared.

Let me repeat this: After a year and a half of swim class, my daughter almost drowned.

That night I called and “fired” the swim school. For $80/month I wanted to see results, and have peace of mind (it’s worth mentioning I was pregnant at the time). I called Genna and she started my daughter in the pool the next week. With Piper’s previous training, she was showing amazing skill in 2 weeks. Seeing Genna coax my daughter out of her fears was amazing, and the crying and fear were quickly replaced with excitement to see Miss Genna. She treats every child like one of her own, and her students respond in kind.
We just finished our yearly refresher, and Piper (almost 4) gets complimented often at our community pool for “swimming like a fish.” Now that I have a toddler and an infant, the peace of mind I get from Piper’s ISR training is totally priceless.

I’m thankful to Genna for her patience and commitment, and I’m so happy we chose ISR. I wish I’d have saved myself a lot of time and money and done this in the first place.

ISR has been a huge blessing for my family. As my younger two kids were about to turn 4 and 2, summer was approaching. I knew I had to get them into something that was more than just knowing how to swim; we needed something that would save their lives, especially since drowning was my biggest “mom fear”. Just being around water with my kids terrified me. My 4 year old hated water to the point that bathing him was miserable. Even worse, my 2 year old had zero fear, loved water, and would dive right in.

I was then told about Genna, an ISR instructor. Genna could not have been more amazing with the kids and teaching them survival skills in the water. Not only did she teach my kids how to handle and be in the water, but was kind and patient in doing so.

After the first season of ISR, my son (now 5) plays in water, in the rain, loves to swim, and even washes his hair with ease. My crazy little girl (now 3) is able to enjoy, swim and play in the water in a SAFE way. I now have a much better relationship with my kids and the water... and I can finally play with and enjoy my kids in and around water.

Genna has been our daughter’s ISR instructor for the last two summers. She has done such a great job with her and we are so grateful for joining the program! Genna has given us confidence that our daughter has the skills she needs to survive and save herself in the water.

She clearly loves her job and feels passionate about teaching children these invaluable skills.

One day while my son was at his grandparents’ home, he fell into their pool as he looked at the plane in the sky. Grandma was not 2 steps away from him and scooped him right up. No harm done, but the real fear that I may have lost my son that day was very tangible. I started on the journey to find the right person to teach my son how to protect himself. That is when I found Genna Aho. For several reasons, to include her honesty and sincerity I felt from her profile, I knew she was the instructor for our family.

Once I met her I was reassured that this was someone I could entrust the most precious person in my life with. From the moment that I inquired about ISR lessons, Genna helped guide myself and my husband through the process of beginning life with ISR. This included dietary limitations and restrictions to protect our child, progress of lessons, and what we could expect to see our son go through. Each lesson Genna gained our trust further and our son began to learn how to be safe in the water. Genna is a genuine, kind, out-going, loyal, and compassionate person who is using her gift and knowledge to help save children from a very real grim fate. Throughout this journey with ISR it has been stressful to see our child struggle to learn these lessons, but she remained patient with our son and quite frankly, us. She has seen us at very high and low times because we want nothing more then our son safe, and she has done nothing but reassure us that not one child will leave her pool without the skills to save themselves and survive. As a person who is very difficult to gain trust, Genna has done nothing but this from day one. She communicates what her expectations and plans are for the lesson and all of her focus during the lesson is on my son until it is time for a break.

There is no question in my mind who we will be returning to for his continued lessons as he grows and once a second child is on this earth. If you want someone who’s whole heart is dedicated to saving children’s lives and making a difference, literally living by ISR Mission Statement, “Not One More Child Drowns.” Genna is the person you want in your child’s life.
